
Jorge Doumont is an Argentine conductor, educator, and wind band specialist whose artistic and pedagogical work focuses on symphonic bands, wind ensembles, and institutional music organizations. His professional activity centers on wind band conducting, conductor training, and the promotion of original repertoire for wind ensembles, combining artistic leadership with a strong commitment to education through seminars, workshops, and conducting clinics. He began his musical training at the Manuel de Falla Municipal Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires and later pursued contemporary music studies at the Centro de Estudios Avanzados en Música Contemporánea (CEAMC). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Musical Arts, specializing in Orchestral Conducting, from the National University of the Arts. His artistic development was guided by distinguished mentors including Mario Benzecry, Luis Gorelik, Marcelo Delgado, Thomas Verrier, Gabriel Valverde, Santiago Santero, and others.

Throughout his career, orchestras and symphonic bands have remained at the center of his artistic interests. He has conducted numerous orchestras and wind ensembles throughout the Americas, including the Buenos Aires City Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Argentine Music “Juan de Dios Filiberto,” the Los Angeles Sinfonietta (USA), the Entre Ríos Symphony Orchestra, the Corrientes Symphony Orchestra, the Loja Symphony Orchestra (Ecuador), the Metropolitan Symphonic Band of Quito (Ecuador), the Municipal Symphonic Band of Mar del Plata, and the Gramado Festival Chamber Orchestra (Brazil), among many others. From 2007 to 2017, he served as Music Director of the Concert Band of the Argentine Federal Police, leading artistic and institutional initiatives that strengthened the ensemble’s professional profile. From 2017 to 2023, he served as Artistic and Musical Director of the Chaco Symphony Orchestra, where he led a comprehensive revitalization process that positioned the orchestra as a leading cultural institution in northeastern Argentina. During his tenure, he developed symphonic seasons featuring collaborations with national and international artists and promoted the performance of Argentine and Latin American repertoire, with regular premieres presented throughout each season. In 2022, he co-created the “Consonancias” project, a Latin American symphonic collaboration platform designed to promote the circulation and premiere of works by living composers across the region.

In April 2023, he was awarded first prize in the international competition to become Principal Conductor of the Metropolitan Symphonic Band of Quito, Ecuador. Alongside his artistic activity, he maintains an active commitment to conductor training and higher education. He regularly presents seminars and workshops in wind band conducting, addressing topics such as functional tuning, instrumentation, sound conception, and applied conducting gesture. Since 2020, he has served as professor at the National Military College in Argentina, teaching Conducting, Counterpoint, and Music History. He is also the founder and director of the Diploma Program in Military Music at the Universidad de la Marina Mercante. His academic background includes postgraduate studies in Wind Conducting at Vanderbilt University (USA), a Master’s degree in Music Research from the International University of La Rioja (Spain), and postgraduate studies in Cultural Management from the National University of Córdoba (Argentina). Through his artistic, pedagogical, and institutional work, he actively contributes to the development of professional wind band culture and the promotion of original wind repertoire throughout Latin America.​
